Josh Carmody Studio is a Melbourne based design practice specialising in furniture design and making. Josh’s design sense is underpinned by his early career experience working on large scale commercial architecture by day - while making high end bespoke furniture through his own design studio by night.
Through this broad design experience, Josh developed a considered approach to ideas from the perspective of the designer, the craftsperson, the manufacturer as well as the end user.
Josh met Garth back in 2018 and had been looking forward to working with the ZETR range from the beginning. Josh has worked with ZETR within bespoke projects, installing ZETR matte black seamlessly within high quality custom joinery work.
We caught with with Josh to talk projects big and small, and his experience working with our range.
“I wouldn’t consider myself a leader in the game. But I do hope I am being seen to contribute to the landscape of great work being design and made in Australia right now. One of the strengths of my studio is my ability to both design, and make my pieces. This gives us a great deal of flexibility in design and production, which in turn instills confidence for the client as they know what I am designing, is what is going to be made.”
Favourite project you’ve worked on?
I love all the projects I get to work on. It is a pretty special thing to earn a living through your creative endeavours and every new project gives me a renewed sense of gratefulness. There are definitely a few project highlights that standout more because their scale and complexity helped lift my practice to a new level. Woods Baggot’s Melbourne studio comes to mind, where I was given free rein to design a collection of tables for their new studio.
How was your experience working with ZETR?
My experience with ZETR was great. Products were easy to buy and the team helped with the gaps in my knowledge. My order arrived without delay and the switches and outlets were just as nice as I had hoped. Couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
What was the client feedback?
The clients were delighted with the ZETR outlets and switches, sharing my opinion that other more standard products would not have reflected or supported the level of craftsmanship and effort that went into designing and making this piece.
Any installation tips?
In all honesty, I just followed the ZETR instructions and guides provided and searchable online. The range is thoroughly designed clearly by someone with intimate knowledge of the electrical trade.
