Jade Customs is a Sydney based upholstery company specialising in bespoke furniture.
Mike March, of Jade Customs, is one of those humble skilled craftspeople that thrives on custom projects and bringing people’s ideas to life. On many occasions ZETR has been able to work with Mike on creating bespoke pieces for projects, samples and installations.
We caught up with Mike from about working with ZETR on everything from little custom leather pieces, to full scale installations.
A bit of background about Jade Customs?
I worked in my fathers business "Jade Upholstery" for about 10 years, but I wanted to diversify from traditional upholstery, so Jade Customs was born. I started 3 years ago with the focus to service interior designers and commercial projects. I'm always looking for new and exciting projects to work on.
What’s your favourite project to date?
I recently worked on a revamp of the Balmoral Bathers Pavilion. We supplied some detailed upholstery combined with some amazing joinery by Broadleaf Joinery. It was a high level specification, combined with a quick turn around, but it all went together really beautifully in the end. It was very satisfying.
In terms of working with ZETR, even though a small project, I really enjoyed making the panel for Flack Studio ‘What’s on Flack’s Plinths?’ I just got a bit of a thrill seeing the finished product and the attention that it gained.
Why ZETR for your projects?
My first introduction to ZETR was through a designer named Belinda from Consulting on Interiors. She specified the ZETR product in a bedhead. Garth came to my shop to have a chat about how it all works and I've loved using them ever since.
My experience was great. Garth was really helpful with explaining how it all worked. It was selected to bring something unique to the bedhead that had never been seen before.
Any installation tips?
I’ve built a template to create a mid piece for upholstery installation - making the process smoother and the fabric sit better at completion.
